Program Kebun Hijau Mentari Segamat

Mentari Segamat, Johor

Description of Project

The initiative was taken as part of rehabilitation programme for our clients in Mentari Segamat. Considering our fertile lands which is located near riverbanks of Segamat, the programme was designed to benefit our clients and the community.  Our clients was involved in preparing the soil composure, planting the seeds, watering the plants, maintaining the plantation area, and harvesting. We successfully harvested a variety of greens including banana fruits, chillies, lemongrass, brinjal, okra, and sugarcane.

The products was well sought by communities, enabling them to enjoy fresh, and pesticide free harvest. We also hope this will reduce their stigma of mental health patients. Sales of the product was subsequently returned to patients.

Green care, or therapy by exposure to plants and gardening has been proven to help alleviating stress and improving mood. Our clients was also able to improve their cooperative skills, and gained satisfaction in completing the activities.

We would like to suggest to other MENTARI to initiate their green project, subjected to site suitability.
