As Glenn Close once said, “What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor and more unashamed conversation. ”At Mentari Petra Jaya which is run by the Psychiatry Department of Sarawak General Hospital, we strive to fight the stigma revolving around mental illness, empower our client sand support them through their own unique journeys. As away to honour and motivate our clients and their family members as well as employers who have participated in rehabilitation activities and supported employment, we successfully organized a fun filled appreciation day last year.This year, we managed to collaborate with PERKESO and initiated the RESTART program at our setting to improve employment opportunities and support our clients who have returned to the work field. Many of us were faced with challenges due to COVID-19 pandemic and our clients were not spared from these challenges as well. To ease their difficulties, we managed to distribute food aid to our clients through the ‘Bakul Kasih’ program which was carried out this year as well. We aim to continue offering our best service to achieve the objectives of Mentari in order to provide better mental healthcare to our wonderful community here in our beloved Kuching.
