Youseemee Bakery

Mentari Simee, Perak

Description of Project

Program Youseemee Bakery began in March 2023. Since its establishment, a total of 5 patients have
participated actively and successfully. This program is part of the Employment Transition Program (ETP) at Mentari Simee, serving as an initial step in preparing patients for entry into competitive employment.
Patients are trained based on real business concept.

Patients are given training in cake and bread making. They are taught from the initial process of preparing
raw materials, through the production process, packaging, sales, and accounting. Patients are also trained in how to promote products.

Project Implementation:

1. Location: Mentari Simee.

2. Sales Locations: Mentari Simee, Kampung Simee Health Clinic, Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in
Ipoh, and health carnivals.

3. Production and Sales Schedule:
a) Mandatory 3 days per month
b) According to carnival dates
c) During festive seasons

4. Workforce: Comprising 3 to 5 patients

5. Collaboration with various agencies in cake and bread making courses, including the Department of Women’s Development, KEMAS, and the Semangat Maju Workshop, Perak

Challenges

1. Maintain patient’s motivation level.

2. Stigma and low awareness among the community and families regarding the clients’ functional
abilities.

3. Limited bread-making skills among clinical staff.

Awareness and knowledge about mental health issues among the community are crucial for enhancing
support for clients’ functional recovery. For future planning, Mentari Simee intends to open a Mini Cafe operated by patients as a social enterprise. Mentari Simee is committed to further empowering the
Youseemee Bakery Program in the future. We hope that Mentari centers across Malaysia will not give up
on discovering patient’s talents and will continue to create opportunities for our patients to work in the
competitive market.
