About Us

What is MENTARI?

MENTARI was established to fulfill the requirement of Mental Health Act 2001 which emphasizes on the improvement of community-based services in enhancing the quality of mental health in the population. It is a new approach initiated by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) to improve outreach and re-integration of people with mental health problems into the community.

In order to build a new image and clear all misconceptions, the term “MENTARI” was chosen as an alternative to the official name of Community Mental Health Centre (CMHC). “MENTA” was derived from the word “Mental” and “RI” was derived from the word “Psikiatri”.

This new transformation in service will surely face a lot of new challenges such as social stigmas, lack of staffs, inadequate reach towards the community and inadequate training. Despite that, MENTARI will strive hard in order to overcome these shortcomings.
