Mentari Tanah Merah has successfully organized and hosted the Mentari Sports Event (SUKEM) which was held for the first time in the State of Kelantan.

The objectives of SUKEM are to improve cooperation and collaborations among all Mentari communities in Kelantan, improve social skills as well as foster team spirit and sportsmanship among Mentari clients. 

SUKEM took place at the Institute Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) on the 25th of June 2024. The participants consisted of 120 clients from the four Kelantan MENTARIs (Tanah Merah, Ketereh, Pasir Mas and Kuala Krai) as well as the Occupational Rehabilitation Unit of Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II.  

This program was inaugurated by the Kelantan State Head of Psychiatry, Dr Hj Mohd Ariff bin Mohd Noor, in the presence of the Deputy Director of Hospital Tanah Merah, the Head of the Department of Psychiatry for Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II and Hospital Tanah Merah as well as the Head of Kelantan State Occupational Therapy Services, as well as all 4 Mentari Kelantan Psychiatrists.

Badminton match is the main event of SUKEM followed by another 4 sports activities.

For Mentari Tanah Merah, the clients who participated in this SUKEM were trained by Mentari Occupational Therapists and other staff 2 months before this SUKEM event took place. Through this program, Mentari clients can build and increase their self-confidence and give them the opportunity to participate in such events without any stigma. This kind of activity is in line with Mentari’s objectives, which includes providing comprehensive rehabilitation to clients.

Among the challenges encountered while preparing for this event is the limited number of clients that are suitable to participate in the designated activities and events. However, with continuous training, Mentari Tanah Merah clients have managed to win second place in the overall event.
