Penerangan Projek
In conjunction with the upcoming Independence month and Malaysia Day celebration, the MENTARI Kuala Terengganu(KT) held a Project “Building the Mind of a Free Soul” with the production of the MERDEKA “Tanjak” as one of the rehabilitation projects. “Tanjak”, “Tengkolok” or “Destar” is a head accessory in Malay culture that is now only used at parties or weddings.
“Tanjak” is a symbol of status, strength and courage that we want to instill in the souls of the trainees, who follow the rehabilitation program here. Most of them are almost hopeless with their situation and inneed a high fighting spirit as well as the support from their families.
The independent month gives its own meaning in a person’s soul. For the rehabilitation process, independence means; “I am able to be independent”, “I am free to give” and “I am free from others perception and stigma”.
Stable participant who are interested in fashion and motivated are selected to this project. These trainees have undergone basic sewing course training under the Family Development Foundation of the state of Terengganu. All preparation processes in terms of purchasing materials, drawing sewing patterns, manufacturing processes, packaging and sales are done by the trainees themselves with the help of MENTARI members. Mentari KT also collaborates with SOCSO and Tabung Haji under the sponsorship of the Caring Centre, the “Cakna Prihatin” Program for sewing machine equipment.
This activity helps trainees improve creativity, enhance focus, concentration, cognitive function, in addition to being able to generate income through sales. They are so motivated even though, it requires extra time to complete the task due to their illness. They are very patient and do not give up easily.
“Building the Mind of an Independent Soul” is the hope and support in developing self-confidence and new skills for trainees as well as income generating business that can help them financially, and encouraging trainees to continue hard work. This can be seen in the trainee’s improved social skills and performance, good time management, improved health and quality of life. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
