Mentari di Rumah Anda

Mentari Selayang, Selangor

Description of Project

Our primary objective establishing this project is to reduce gaps between public and mental health practitioner thus creating more awareness relating to the importance of mental health and reducing stigma to get early assessment and treatment if necessary.

Virtual conference has been a norm since pandemic started and due to this, we decided to create routine online public webinar using Zoom Meeting platform and Facebook Live platform. The project is called “MENTARI Di Rumah Anda”.

This program is a tailored outreach program designed specifically for general public who have access to internet connectivity and social media account as our primary audience. Based on platform used, we expected most of our participants will be teenager and young adult aged between 18-35 years old.

“MENTARI Di Rumah Anda” is scheduled weekly (Tuesday evening) with speakers among Psychiatrist and Medical Officers presenting topics relating to mental health issue. The program will start with 30-40 minute presentation relating to topic of the day and practical tips for mental health wellbeing. The session is then continued with interactive session with the audience. During this session, we welcome questions from public via Zoom’s chat box or Facebook’s comment section and the presenter will answer question given live on the webinar. Occasionally, questions received at time not related to the topic discussed but speaker usually will give simple opinion relating to the question.

Webinar was promoted in our official Facebook account and our official Instagram account. Staffs from Jabatan Psikiatri & Kesihatan Mental Hospital Selayang also was encourage to promote the webinar on their on platform. Poster as prepared prior to the webinar.

Apart from simple straightforward presentation, we felt live interaction with public audience is a strong reason why this project received well by the public.

Conclusion

Online Public Webinar can be one of the method to reach out to public and if we do it routinely, it can help bring awareness on mental health wellbeing and hopefully can prevent emergence of serious mental illness.
